Maritime Chukchi
The coastal, sea-hunting division of the Chukchi, as against the inland Reindeer Chukchi. Bogoras places their settlements on the Pacific coast “between the mouth of the Anadyr and Indian Point” (1-021), where they live interspersed with Asiatic Eskimo — and he says on the same page that the material life of the two coastal peoples is largely one subject, which is why his account treats them together.
Membership is read off the gazetteer's Chukchee blocks, 1-048 to 1-053, not off the names: several of the villages here carry Eskimo names in a stretch Bogoras assigns to the Chukchee.
Two are named here and by a Yupik division both, because Bogoras says so: Tkachen is "Chukchee and Aiˊwan, half and half", and of Uelen "half of the people are Chukchee, and half Nɵˊɵkalɪt Eskimo".
Villages with no entry yet: Alaˊyon, Ilhiˊnin, Čeˊwin, Iˊᵋčen, Čeiˊtun, Iqäˊlurun, Neˊte-keˊñičvun, Neˊten, Nat-ᴇnmɪtaˊhɪn, Imɪˊlᴇ, Mäˊᵋmi-piˊlhɪn, Teˊpqän, Paloˊnnan, Velkäˊl-tɪnuˊp, Neˊs˙qᴀqäi, Irg̣uᵋnnuˊp, Yɪˊnřɪlɪn, Piˊlhɪn, Notaˊ-tɪˊmlɪn, Reᵋn, Yaˊqan.
Two names are printed twice, once on each coast, and only one village of each pair has an entry. Nuteˊ-pɪˊnmɪn has 2 houses in the Pacific list (1-052) and 4 in the Arctic list (1-053); both are linked to Nutepelmen, which is located on the Arctic coast, so the link on 1-052 goes to the wrong village. ᴇnmɪtaˊhɪn has 6 houses in the Pacific list, which is Dezhnyovo, and 3 in the Arctic list (1-053), which is not.
