Wild and domesticated reindeer are one species; the book treats them as two conditions of it, and nothing here splits them. The binomial is never printed — the book says reindeer and no more; tarandus appears only inside the names of the flies that live on it (Œstrus tarandi, Œdemagena tarandi).
