Vulpes
The genus is where a fox the page does not colour belongs. The book names two species and colours them in English — Vulpes lagopus the white fox, much the commoner and the staple of the fur trade, and Vulpes vulpes the red fox — and 1-179 is where it sets them side by side. But most of the book says only fox: the fox of 1-253's famine meat, of 2-137's carcass ceremonial, of the tales at 1-350. Those mentions name no species and this entry does not give them one.
No binomial is printed anywhere in the corpus. The one Latin animal name in this neighbourhood is Canis, at 1-252.
